Gloria Molina was born in Montebello, California to a Mexican American father and a Mexican mother. She got her education at Rio Hondo College, East Los Angeles College, and California State University, Los Angeles. Gloria was the first Chicana elected to the California State Assembly in 1982. She continued her public service in 1991 where she was the first Latina elected to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, representing the first supervisorial district. She earned a reputation for beating well-funded incumbents. She left this position in 2014 to enter retirement.
